Luck of the Dinosaurs
Saturday, March 12, 2010 Who better to play at a St. Patrick's Day Party to celebrate the luck of the Irish than the luckiest dinosaurs in the world - Jurassic Rock. We had our green on (bling does count) and our mojo going and had a great time rocking with everyone at LoneStar Saturday night. We introduced several new songs into our classic lineup - from the Who, Journey, Creed, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. After years of always hearing someone calling out "Freebird" from the back of the bar, we finally added that staple to our repertoire. As always, the usual visual evidence of the night's activities is located right here. Next up is back to our favorite Arlington haunt - John B's on Friday, March 26. It's been a while, since last Halloween since we've been there - so come on out to a great place to hear the band, have a beer, and rock & roll.
Lawyers Go Ape For Jurassic Rock
Saturday, February 27, 2010 For the second straight year, we headlined a private Party of the Tarrant County Trial Lawyers Association at the Ft. Worth Zoo Portraits of the Wilds Art Gallery. Once again, the luck of the dinosaurs (other than that extinction thing - damn those asteroids) was with us weather-wise. The previous day was in the 30's - cold, windy, and rainy, but we had outstanding weather for our gig with a high in the mid-60s. We had a great time and once all the speeches and networking was complete, everyone cut loose and had a good time as well. The photos from the gig are located here. Special thanks to that one ape who ventured out from the primates habitat behind us to hear some quality rock & roll. We appreciate all of our fans, regardless of genus or species (you can see this connoisseur of classic rock listening intently in one of our pictures). Our next gig is back at our favorite East Dallas hangout - Lonestar Cafe & Club on March 13. We have several new top shelf classic rock songs in our pocket that we'll be ready to rock on.
Jurassic Rock Comes Out Fighting
Saturday, February 6, 2010 It was Jurassic Rock against the Ultimate Fighting Championship pay-per-view at Arena Sports Bar & Grill at the Saturday night fights. It was a standing room only crowd, and they weren't disappointed with the no-holds-barred action. UFC put up a good fight, but the Jurassic Rockers came out smoking and pounded out an impressive unanimous decision victory. Thanks to all the Friends of Jurassic Rock (FOJRs) who came out to cheer us on. The press release and dramatic ring-side photos of the event are located here. Seriously, Arena was a great place to play and we look forward to many more visits this year. We'll, our next gig is at the zoo to play for a bunch of lawyers (actually, the Tarrant County Trial Lawyers Association are great group and we appreciate the opportunity to play for them. When Steven Spielberg sues us, we'll be well prepared). Then back at our favorite East Dallas hangout - Lonestar Cafe & Club on March 13. See you then.
Cold Wind Blowing at Lonestar
Friday, January 29, 2010 To make up for the cold temperature on Friday, Jurassic Rock did their best to heat up Lonestar with some hot classic rock. Not a bad crowd for the weather; we appreciate all those FOJRs - Friends of Jurassic Rock who came out to support the band. The usual collection of pictures from the night are located here. We'll be back at it again this Saturday at Arena Sports Bar & Grill, on Saturday, February 6 in Carrollton. We've never played there before, but we hear it's a great place to eat, play pool, watch TV, and of course rock & roll. It looks like the weather will be much better - so we'll see you there. Not Ready to Jump the Shark
Saturday, January 23, 2010 A last minute opening came up at Sharky's on Greenville Ave., so the Jurassic Rockers jumped at the chance to play a new venue in Dallas. And as it turned out, it ended up being a great place to play. We had a full house that stayed and partied with us through all four sets - it doesn't get much better than that. For a look at some of the pictures from the gig, click here. We hope to back at Sharky's again later this spring - but in the meantime, we'll be back at our favorite east side establishment, Lonestar Cafe and Club, next Friday on 29 January. Then we're at another brand new place to play, Arena Sports Bar & Grill, on Saturday, February 6 in Carrollton. So come out and help us inaugurate the place.
Latest JR Video
Sunday, January 17, 2010 Good FOJR (Friend of Jurassic Rock) Wade Meriwether has created an awesome DVD of the band from our last gig at Lonestar Bar & Grill in December. We put one song - Foreplay/Longtime by Boston out on YouTube. You can click on the picture above to watch. And for a few other videos we put out on YouTube in the past - click on the following links: Tuesday's Gone - Lynyrd Skynyrd And not to forget our brother band across the big ocean, Jurassic Rock Germany - they've been busy too with a new video out on YouTube. Check them out at www.jurassicrock.de and watch their video below. A Holiday Video From JR
Friday, December 11, 2009 In case you need your fix of Jurassic Rock over the holiday season, Tony has released some archive footage of the band from our private video collection. We hope you enjoy viewing this clip as much as we did making it. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and we'll see you next year. To view this revealing video, click here. FOJRs Get Married
Saturday, December 12, 2009 Good Friends of Jurassic Rock (FOJRs) Dave and Janette, who met at a JR gig almost two years ago, decided to get married in Hawaii over the Thanksgiving holiday. Bob McGinn, JR guitarist extraordinaire, and his wife were invited to the event and took the picture above at the top of Waimea Canyon (3400 ft) in Kauai. As a gift from the band, we provided a pair of autographed copies of the famous JR T-shirt (worth upwards of $1000 each on E-bay, or so the story goes). Congratulations to the couple on this fortuitous event and a long and happy marriage.
Jamming at the Lonestar
Friday, December 4, 2009 We were back at Lonestar after a two month hiatus. A great crowd was there despite the cold weather; we appreciate everyone who came out to party with us. Thanks to Diane Harris and members of her band - the Coppertones for jamming with us on stage. Anyway, here's the pictures from the night. This was the last official 2009 JR gig, so we'll see you again in 2010 (that rhymes) at our next performance at Lonestar on Friday, January 29, from 8:30 pm - 12:30 am. Thanks to all FOJRs (Friends of Jurassic Rock) who supported us through 2009 and we're looking forward to rocking with you in 2010.
Annual JR Halloween Bash
Saturday, October 31, 2009 It was the 5th annual JR Halloween bash at John B's, and we had a great time partying with all of our FOJRs (friends of Jurassic Rock). Of course there was the exciting Halloween costume contest. With a lot of great entries, it was difficult to select the winners of the $100 first prize and $50 second place prize. Click here to see pictures from the night's festivities, then click here to see all the great costumes in the contest, and then finally click here to see the winners. Tony (Mad Scientist) McCoy was so taken by the events of the night, he was inspired to write some lyrics to the tune of the Monster Mash: The Jurassic Rock Mash I was hanging out at the Pub last night When my
eyes beheld an eerie sight They did the mash.... The crowd was playing and having fun Yes the party
had just begun The ghouls and goblins were rocking the bar, while Geisha girl Cindy was taking pics from afar Now Naughty Nurse Molly and her sister the bat are rockin the scene cause this is where it’s at They did the mash....
Monster Mash
Monday, October 12, 2009 In preparation for the Jurassic Rock Annual Halloween Bash at John B's on October 31, Tony (Mad Scientist) McCoy has created an awesome video of the band doing the Monster Mash. Provided you have some patience (the video is 43MB, so it might take a minute or two to download), we think you'll find this pretty funny. To view the video, click here.
Another Awesome Night at Lone Star Café
Friday, October 2, 2009 Jurassic Rock was back at Lone Star Café in north east Dallas night for the fourth time this year. What started out as a potentially slow night got cranking before we had completed our first set. Besides our usual FOJR’s (Friends of Jurassic Rock) there were many new faces in the audience that we had not seen before last night. They had heard about the band and ventured out to hear us play many of their favorite tunes. Judging from the comments (and pictures), we think they had a great time. Last night was a record for the number of American Idol hopefuls who joined us on stage for Mustang Sally. And, we extend a special thanks to Diane Harris who joined us onstage with some impressive and masterful flute playing. It sure sounds sweet to hear a flute when we play Locomotive Breath and Suite Madam Blue. Our traditional t-shirt winner was Diamond Munze. Diamond is now an official FOJR!!! She did Jurassic Rock proud as she wore the JR colors for the rest of evening. Next up is our traditional and festive Halloween Costume Party at John B’s on October 31. The Halloween Party has grown bigger and better every year. There is a cash prize (winner take all) for the best costume as judged by the crowd. Don’t be afraid to don your best and most frightful (or funny) costume and join us for an evening ghoulish fun and rock and roll with your favorite rock band, Jurassic Rock. BTW, if you plan on coming out that evening, please call ahead for a reservation because we expect quite a crowd. Tibbs said he already had a seat so don’t worry about him! What do Ghouls like Demons so much? You have to come see us October 31 for the punch line. See ya’ there!!!!! Jurassic Doubleheader
Friday, September 25, 2009
A sudden opportunity came up for the Jurassic Rockers to play for the
Booze Fighters Motorcycle Club in
Ft. Worth. They are responsible for a lot of charitable work, including
setting up and coordinating the annual
Big Texas Toy Run around
Christmas every year from Ft. Worth, Dallas and Grapevine to the
Arlington Convention Center. We met folks like Harpoon, Mad Man, Ear
Muffs, Chainsaw, Blade and Hack Saw. You can say that with names like
these, it's a good thing they liked us. We really had a great time, as
you can see from the
pictures. Thanks to Maverick for inviting us out, and we hope to be
back there soon.
Saturday, September 26, 2009 We had the opportunity to play the Mansfield Pecan Festival this week end. All though it was a little warm for a fall day there were hundreds of folks out for a great day of music, food, games and rides. We played for about 45 minutes and received quite a applause for the short time we played. We would like to extend a personal thanks to Sarah Zink for all her hard work for this prestigeous event and for the invite to participate in Pecan Fest 2009. Also thanks to all the FOJRs (Friends of Jurassic Rock) who came out to support us. For some photos of the band, click here. And we're back at Lonestar Cafe & Club in east Dallas this Friday, October 2nd. So come on out and help the band rock the night away.
Dino's - Live
Opening up with a searing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner in honor of 9/11, Jurassic Rock proceeded to rock & roll the night away at Dino's Bar & Grill near downtown Ft. Worth. A steady rain failed to keep die-hard FOJRs (Friends of Jurassic Rock) from coming out and partying with the band. We had a great time, and the pictures are here. Even the inimitable Chris Lemons, former drummer and singer extraordinaire for Jurassic Rock from years past (that's Chris second from the right), showed up and belted out a few choice tunes with the band. If you like pecans, food, fun, Jurassic Rock, or any combination thereof, don't forget to come on out to the Mansfield Pecan Festival in Catherine Rose Park on Saturday, September 26 and here the Dinos play live on the big stage from 2:30pm - 3:30pm, Admission is free, so you can't go wrong. We'll see you there.
