New Years Eve 2007

Monday, December 31  Jurassic Rock New Years Eve party

Well it was an awesome night in south west Ft. Worth as Jurassic Rock played a private New Years Eve Party for Anita and Mason and few hundred of their close friends.  It was an exceptional evening with wonderful food, drink and friends and lots of pictures that tell the real story! We decided to have a bit of fun with some of the pictures by adding captions that give you, the viewer, a better perspective of that really happens at Jurassic Rock events.  Enjoy!

On a sad note (I had to say it) the men of Jurassic Rock celebrated one final evening of Rock and Roll with John Jurik (keyboards) and Rick Nettles (soundman).  The pleasure of packing up and loading several tons of band equipment at 1:00AM after playing four hours was more fun than they could stand.  We will certainly miss them both.

Thanks to everyone for a great 2007.  We look forward to making more friends and having more fun in 2008.  Bob, Scott, Greg, Tony and Larry.

Game Day Gone Wild

Friday, November 30 – It was game on at Game Day in Mansfield last night!  You might say it was Game Day gone wild.  The folks in Mansfield know how to party and Game Day is a great venue for our type of music and our type of crowd.  It’s hard to say who was having a better time, the crowd or us.  Judging from the picture evidence.  I think it is safe to say that everyone enjoyed the night’s festivities.  Brian and Jerry Templeton came out and celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary with us.  Brian thrilled the crowd with his rendition of Heart Break hotel.  He was worth the price admission.  Last night also featured our new keyboard player Larry Donovan.  John has decided he has made enough money with the band and will retire after our New Years Eve party.  Larry's arrival was well timed.  (Brother John and his lovely wife Cindy were called out of town to a family funeral so keep them in your prayers)

We will back at Game Day on January 25 and we expect that all our new Mansfield friends will be out in full force to helps us party again.  Next up is Big Johnson’s up in Plano on Dec 28th.  We will look forward to seeing all our north Dallas friends again!

We are off for a few weeks as we begin to retool and get ready for 2008.

When Pigs Fly

Friday, November 16 – Our last gig at Gameday was a first timer venturing far south of the Metroplex to Mansfield. This time, we played a first timer going far north to Lewisville to play the Flying Pig. the Pig is a great rock & roll bar, and we had a good time playing out there.  Thanks to 17 year old lead guitarist extraordinaire Ryan Goodman (on the left), who came up on stage and demonstrated some amazing chops.  And we have the usual post-mortem exhibit (that would be the pictures) for your viewing pleasure right here.

We’re off feasting on turkeys for Thanksgiving this weekend, then we're back for a return engagement at Gameday in Mansfield on Friday, November 30th. It's a great place to party; we'll see you there.

Jurassic Rock Got Game

Friday, November 2 – It was our first time venturing out to Gameday in Mansfield, and as you can see from the lots of pictures we took, the place was absolutely packed solid with everyone having a great time. We appreciate all the FOJRs (Friends of Jurassic Rock) coming out to help us make a good impression. We must have done alright – we’re back again in a few weeks and have several more gigs lined up back at Gameday for early 2008. It was a very nice place to play, and we especially enjoyed a smoke-free environment for a change (but they do have an enclosed cigar bar for smoking for those who like to indulge).

We’re off for a week, then we migrate to the north to Lewisville to play at the Old Town Flying Pig on Friday,  November 16th. And yet again - another new place for the Jurassic Rockers to play, so we can use your help to party the place down. See you there.

Halloween 2007

Saturday, October 27 – Hopefully you didn’t miss the 3nd Annual Jurassic Rock Halloween Bash, definitely our best Halloween party ever. We had a full house at John B’s, absolutely great costumes on display for the contest, and the finest collection of Elvises ever assembled in the D/FW area. The band made their grand entrance to the strains of the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey (just like the man himself) and then kicked off the proceedings with CC Rider, and continued with other Elvis favorite throughout the night.  For all the great pics from last night -click here.

We had 26 great entries for the costume contest this year. The prizes were $125 first place, and JR T-shirts for 2nd and 3rd places.  The costumes were all outstanding - for a look at all the entries as they made their way across the dance floor - click here. With audience applause selecting the best costumes, the final three contestants were the Gangster Girl, Captain Jack, and the Queen Bee. To see who the grand prize winner was – click here.

Once again, thanks to Janice and Larry, the fantastic owners of John B’s, for letting Jurassic Rock host the party. And thanks to Larry Donovan (also known as the Phantom) for tickling the ivories during the costume contest.

We'll be at Game Day Bar & Grill in Mansfield next Friday, November 2nd from 9:00 pm - 1:00 am.  It’s our first time playing here, so come on out and help us rock the house.

Elvis Sighted at Local Grocery Store

Saturday, October 27 – Elvis Presley, who's alleged demise has been the subject of gossip tabloids for 30 years, was captured on camera this week at a local Dallas grocery store. Witnesses report that in preparation for his highly-anticipated concert at John B's in Arlington this Saturday evening, Elvis was seen stockpiling massive amounts of bananas, peanut butter, and bread to prepare himself for this special event, the 3rd Annual Jurassic Rock Halloween Bash.  His world-renown backup band - the Jurassic Elvi, cloned from the very same genes as Elvis himself, will captivate the audience with renditions of Elvis' greatest hits. And don't forget the costume contest, with a $100 minimum first place prize. Don't miss this once in a lifetime performance and don't forget, you must be present to be there!

Pre-Halloween Tune-up

Friday, October 26 – Elvis' backup band, the Jurassic Elvi, were at John B's last night doing a tune-up for their big Halloween shindig - The 3rd Annual Jurassic Rock Halloween Bash. The crowd of fans, hoping to catch a rare glimpse of Elvis, had a great time in preparation for Saturday's big event. We took lots of pictures as usual, and you can see them here. We'll see you tomorrow for the big concert. Be sure to have your costume and enter the contest for the $100+ grand prize.

Upper Hand at the Upper Deck

Saturday, October 20 – The luck of the dinosaurs (and you wouldn’t think dinosaurs were especially lucky) was upon us at our outdoor gig at the Upper Deck  Saturday. We didn't know what the weather would bring, but when we started it was sunny, 89 degrees out (just as a comparison point, our brother band in Stuttgart, Jurassic Rock – Germany had a nice mix of snow, ice and freezing temperatures – we love Texas).  The weather was great, the crowd was great, and we had a great time playing under the stars. And the best part was that we were done by 10pm, so we actually got some sleep last night. We took lots of pictures, to check them out click here.

The 3rd Annual Jurassic Rock Halloween Bash is finally upon us. This coming weekend is the main event, and we hope you’re ready (we hear some FOJRs haven’t got their costumes yet – shame on them). As we said so many times before, Friday the 26th is the warm-up, and Saturday the 27th is costume party, complete with plenty of prizes. The band will dressed in their finest Elvis costumes, and croon a few Elvis hits as well. See you there.

Shining at the Lonestar

Friday, October 5 – We were back on the east side of Dallas this weekend at Lonestar Cafe & Club. We had a house full of FOJRs, and had a great time helping Lori celebrate her birthday at Lonestar. Rick, our sound man extraordinaire, once again had camera duty, and took some great pictures of the action. Click here for the pix.

In two weeks were at the Upper Deck in Euless on Saturday, October 20th from 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm. It's our first time here, so come on out and celebrate with us. It's an outdoors gig too, so we'll have to keep an eye on that Texas weather.  And then it's finally time for the 3rd Annual Jurassic Rock Halloween Bash on October 26 & 27. Friday the 26th is the warm-up, and Saturday the 27th is the main event. See you there in costume.

Hogg Warts and All...

New - We've added some videos from HR&H to our Video/Audio page. Check back in a few days and we'll hopefully have more to watch.

Friday, June 29 – Thought I'd throw in a reference to Harry Potter (Hogwarts) after all with a book and movie coming out soon. Despite all the record rain we've been getting lately, a great night and great crowd at Hot Rods & Hoggs, our favorite motorcycle hangout. Special thanks to the talented Nikki McKibbin, our local celebrity extraordinaire. For those bikers who don't know who Nikki is (and of course they all do since she waitresses at HR&H while she's working on her next CD),  Nikki is a local girl done good by coming in 3rd place on the first American Idol. Nikki took a few minutes off to come on stage and help us on a few songs with her great voice. Nikki's web site  is www.nikkimckibbin.com. Check it out and be sure to support her. Pictures of all the night's festivities are located here.

Our next gig is at Big Johnson's in North Dallas. we haven't been there in forever, so they've probably forgotten how good we are. Or so we lead ourselves to believe. But come on out and party with the Rockers - we always appreciate good company.

Jurassic Rock (USA) & Jurassic Rock (Germany) - Together Again

New - Check out video of Hans tearing  up the keyboard at John B's on our Video/Audio page. Note: had a few complaints that the videos don't download. We changes the link a bit, so please try again if you had a problem. Thanks.

Saturday, May 26 – In a historic international event, Hans Georg Lutz – keyboard player extraordinaire for Jurassic Rock – Germany, flew deep into the heart of Texas and sat in with Jurassic Rock – USA at John B’s Saturday night. Hans is visiting the USA with his family for a vacation and took the opportunity to visit with his brothers from across the ocean. Since Germany is seven hours later than Texas, Hans had been up for 24 hours taking three different flights to get here, proving you’re never too tired to rock & roll. It was a packed house at John B’s with every table full, and we truly appreciate the support of our fans to provide Hans a genuine Texas-size welcome. Arriving at the start of the third set, Hans sat in on Centerfold, Smoke on the Water, and two keyboard player version of Brown Sugar. The usual cultural artifacts were exchanged – JR-Germany hats for us and a State of Texas Flag shirt for Hans. Hans had a great time here and appreciated everyone who came out to welcome him.

We also had a few other special guests on stage with us Saturday – the inimitable Mr. Chris Lemons (ex-drummer for JR) sang a few songs and raised hell, and long-time FOJR (Friend of Jurassic Rock) Jody Page came on stage to do some fine guitar, harmonica and backup vocals.

Of course we took lots of pictures, and as you might suspect, they are located here.

It’s back at John B’s in three weeks on Saturday, June 16th, and then we’ll be rocking at Hot Rods & Hoggs in Arlington on  Friday 29 June. It’s not like we’re trying to avoid the east side of Dallas or anything, but we’ll be back that way in July.

Weekend at the Big B

Friday, September 28 – We were back at John B's this Friday to start warming up for our big Halloween bash at the end of October. We even had our number one soundman Rick hop on the stage to deliver his spot on rendition of Elvis' song Little Sister. Lots of good pictures of all of our FOJRs who partied with us right here

OK, it's back to the east side of Dallas next Friday on October 5th at Lonestar Cafe & Club, then we're outdoors (pray for good weather) at the Upper Deck on Saturday, October 20th in the mid-cities.

Keep working on your costume for the 3rd Annual Jurassic Rock Halloween Bash. Bob slyly revealed in his newsletter our band costume theme for this year is the Jurassic Elvi (that's plural for Elvis). Each member of the band will impersonate Elvis from one of his many different eras, with a few songs thrown in as well. To honor the occasion, we've modified our sacred logo to give Mr. T (Rex) the legendary Elvis quiff (had to look this one up: a part of a man's hairstyle in which the hair at the front is brushed upward and backward) and sideburns.

Big Dance at Big Johnson's

Saturday, September 8 – We definitely had the crowd up and dancing Saturday night at Big Johnson's. Thanks to all the FOJRs (Friends of Jurassic Rock) who came out to party and had a great time. Our trusty soundman Rick had double duty not only making us sound good, but he was also our cameraman for the night. For a look at Rick's portfolio of shots, click here.

We're back on the west side of town for our next gig at John B's on Friday, September 28th. And speaking of John B's, hopefully you're working on your costume for the 3rd Annual Jurassic Rock Halloween Bash. There will be the requisite cash prize for the best costume and of course Jurassic Rock will be attired in full regalia for the occasion (we've got our theme worked out, but we're keeping it under wraps for now).

Lonestar State of Mind

Friday, August 24 – It was back at the Lonestar Cafe & Club in East Dallas for the first time since March, and the JR Dinos were in top form. Thanks to all the FOJRs for coming out and partying with us. We have some great pictures, located right here. In the picture on the left, Rick Magnuson came up on stage to croon to his lovely wife Stacy on Wonderful Tonight. He did a great job, and you would be hard pressed to find a better way to score points with your wife than that.

We're off for Labor Day as we frolic at the lake or wherever, then were back on Saturday, September 8th at Big Johnsons. See you there.

By the way, hope you noticed our new band picture at the top of the web site. We were just standing around in the parking lot at Lonestar, and this gorgeous classic pearl white 1957 Chevy stretch limousine pulls up. So we snagged a few quick pictures of the band in front of this baby, the perfect car for the best classic rock & roll band in Dallas/Ft. Worth. If you want to see what this beauty looks like on the inside, check out the Lost in the 50's Limos web site at www.50slimos.com

To B or Not To Be

Saturday, August 4 – Thought I'd throw in a reference to William Shakespeare's Hamlet, no particular reason. The Jurassic summer vacation is finally over, the dinosaurs are satiated and now ready to create havoc in the metroplex. We were at John B's last night, and as usual had a great time partying with our as usual exuberant FOJRs (friends of Jurassic Rock). We introduced a couple of new songs, Working For The Weekend and We're An American Band (which by the way is the only song our brothers from across the ocean, Jurassic Rock - Germany can't play. "We're a German Band" just wouldn't sound the same).  And as usual we have lots of pictures from the evening.

As you can see from the Jurassic Rock calendar, we've got a lot of gigs coming your way over the next few months, with more to come. If you noticed, we've got a new place to stomp, Game Day Bar & Grill in Mansfield. So come on out for our inaugural gig on Friday, November 2nd. Our next gig is back after a long hiatus at Lonestar Cafe & Club on Friday, August 24th. See you there.

Happy Birthday Anita from JR

Note: Anita was kind enough to send us some pictures of her birthday bash at BJs; click here to see how to celebrate a birthday in style (especially the limousine waiting outside).

Friday, July 6 – It has been 9 months since we played Big Johnson's Beer Garden in North Dallas, and judging by the full house we had, they were quite happy to see us again. FOJR (Friend of Jurassic Rock) Anita, the good-looking blonde centerstage, decided to throw caution to the wind and celebrate her birthday with the Jurassic Rockers, and we didn't let her down. As you can see from the pictures, Anita, her friends, and everyone else there had a great time.

It's summertime, and even dinosaurs need to frolic on vacation occasionally. So Jurassic Rock is off for several weeks replenishing their energy and getting ready to roar through the rest of 2007. Our next gig is August 4th at John B's; we'll see you then.
