After his 5th grade music teacher sent a note home to his parents saying he had "absolutely no musical aptitude whatsoever and should be discouraged from pursuing anything musical", Bob (hereinafter referred to as Bob) decided that no over-the-hill, dyed-hair, cat-owning, tone-deaf, piece of dried up fish-smelling, rodent-bait (but other than that, a really nice teacher) was going to squash his dreams of being a rock star. Even today, there are those who would wholeheartedly agree with this teacher, however, they seem to have mysteriously disappeared (let us quote the legal principle of habeas corpus: they can't convict if they can't find the bodies). Anyway, now properly motivated, and entering junior high, Bob joined the school band and learned to play the saxophone. He remained in the band through high school. No one ever said again that Bob had no talent (and lived to tell about it). The guitar didn't really enter the picture until his senior year, much later than most guitar players begin, and even then it was just a matter of dabbling in his bedroom amidst the usual screaming and pleading of his parents to "TURN IT DOWN!" But again, he refused to take any more criticism. A late bloomer and basically shy, Bob didn't play in his first professional band until he was 30! That was all it took. He saw the glow of the neon lights and felt the heat of anticipation from every crowd. Unfortunately, he was working the midway at the State Fair at the time, but he's been playing in bands ever since. Bob is a jack of all band trades. Not only does he play Lead, Rhythm, and Bass guitar (of course not all at the same time). He also handles lead and backing vocals. Bob is an all around nice guy and if you don't believe that just ask his best friend. She helped him hide all the bodies and then write this bio. MUSICAL INFLUENCES: KISS, Alice Cooper, Styx, ZZ Top, Marty Stuart (yes, Marty Stuart is my hero), Little Texas, Diamond Rio (I'm a country harmony singer at heart - remember I spent many years singing in a country band - and I KNOW you can tell ;-) Unfortunately, there are no fat ugly rock and roll singers out there that I can use as a role model, so I'm on my own! EQUIPMENT: Guitars: My favorite is my 1983 Carvin DC200. Had it for 19 years and it is still the most solid dependable ax I've ever seen. It just NEVER goes out of tune. Also play an Epiphone reissue of the Gibson 1958 Flying V Korina. Ovation acoustic (also 20 years old. Don't play it much because it has a round back and I have a round front - doesn't mix well). Amp: It all plays through a Fender Stage Lead 2x12 100w amp that has served me loyally for about 23 years!! Effects: A Digitech RP-50 plus various assorted stompboxes that I drag out when I feel like it. |
