Rocking at the Lonestar

Friday, July 8 2011

Jurassic Rock was back at their favorite east Dallas hangout - Lonestar Cafe & Club this past Friday. Everyone had a great time and we even had former JR guitarist extraordinaire Scott Carroll come up and play some guitar for old times sake. Click here for pictures from the gig.

Our next gig is at the Oasis on Joe Pool Lake on Friday & Saturday, July 15-16 from 7:30 pm -11:30 am on Friday and 8:30 pm  - 11:30 pm on Saturday. Come on down for some cool lake breezes and hot rock & roll.

Almost Midnight at the Oasis

Friday & Saturday, June 17 & 18, 2011

It was a literally a hot time at the Oasis Bar and restaurant on Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie this weekend, with temperatures over 100 both nights. But as you can see from the pictures, we had a full house and everyone had a great time rock and rolling.  We introduced our fantastic new bass player Dennis Burns and Mark Paris got a promotion from bass to lead guitar. To see pictures of all the action, click here for Friday's pictures and click  here for Saturday's pictures.

Our next gig is at Lonestar Cafe & Club on Friday July 8 in East Dallas. Be sure to come on out and heatr the new line-up.

Scott Farewell at Best Of 2011 Party

Saturday, June 4, 2011

Jurassic Rock was honored once again to open for the Ft. Worth Magazine Best Of Party for 2011 at Casa Manana. Because of the change in categories, we didn't  win any of the Best Of awards this year, but we appreciate all the votes everyone made for us. We took a few pictures of the night's activities. Click here to see them.

On a sad note, once again we have to bid adieu to another member of the Jurassic Rock family. Scott Carroll, our fearless flying lead guitar player, is retiring from the band to focus more on job and family life. Scott has been with the band for 8 years and was instrumental (pun intended) in making JR a musical force to contend with in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

So, we'll be sporting a new lineup for your listening pleasure when we play at the Oasis on Friday & Saturday, June 17-18 from 7:30 pm -11:30 am on Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie. Be sure to come out and see what you think!

Live at the Lonestar

Friday, May 13, 2011

It was Friday the 13th, and the usual luck of the dinosaurs was with the band at the Lonestar Cafe & Club. We had a big crowd and everyone had a  great time rocking away. To see the photographic evidence of the night's activities, click here.

Our next gig is in a few weeks at Casa Manana and the Ft. Worth Magazine Best Of Party. After that, we'll be at the Oasis on Friday & Saturday, June 17-18 from 7:30 pm -11:30 am on Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie.

Oasis - Part 1 and Part 2

Friday & Saturday - April 15-16, 2011

It was great weather this weekend on Joe Pool Lake at the Oasis restaurant and bar.  It was a double-header for the band, and we appreciate the enthusiastic crowds that came out to rock with us on both nights. We took lots of great pictures of all the action. To see pictures from Friday night, click here. To see pictures from Saturday night, click  here.

Our next gig is at Lonestar Cafe & Club on Friday May 13 in East Dallas. Be sure to come on out and rock & roll with the band.

Back in the Arena Again

Friday, April 8, 2011

It's been over six months since we've been to north Dallas, so we had a great time flexing our rock & roll muscles at at the Arena Bar & Grill in Carrollton. It was Mark Paris' first full gig with Jurassic Rock, and he did a yeoman's job stepping up and covering all the songs beautifully on bass and some fine harmonies as well. Thanks to all the Jurassic Rock fans who came out and welcomed Mark to the fold. To see all the pictures we took of the great time had at Arena, click here.

Our next gig is at the Oasis on Friday & Saturday nights , April 15-16 in Grand Prairie. We play outside on a large patio overlooking Joe Pool lake, so come on out and enjoy the sunset and some great rock & roll.

Big Night For Jurassic Rock

Friday, March 11, 2011

It was a big night for Jurassic Rock at Lonestar Cafe & Club, our home away from home. First, it was Tony McCoy's last night playing with the band. Tony was the founding father of Jurassic Rock twelve years ago and decided to call it a day to focus on his other musical endeavors. While we will certainly miss Tony's talents - the good news is we welcomed two new members to Jurassic Rock - Mark Paris on bass, guitars, & vocals, and Butch Starr as sound engineer. Mark, pictured on the left, played for a couple of sets and sounded great.

Thanks to all the FOJRs (Friends of Jurassic Rock) who came out and helped us make the evening special. We had a guest singer, Chris Schnau on stage for a song as well. It was Chris' birthday request to sing a song with the band and Jurassic Rock granted her wish. She did a great job on vocals singing "Be My Lover", the classic Alice Cooper/Joan Jett song.  Rick Nettle, our former sound engineer, came out to pay his respects as well. Rick is in the picture above on stage next to Tony. To see all the photos of the night's activites, click here.

Don't forget to vote for your favorite rock band (that hopefully would be us) for the Fort Worth, Texas Magazine 2011 Best Of nominations. The voting has begun, so please take a couple of minutes to go to www.fwtx.com and go to #49 (Best Live Music) and #66 (Best Entertainer) and vote for Jurassic Rock.

And if you aren’t already a Facebook Friend, be sure to find us at Jurassic Rock – DFW.

Our next gig is at Arena Sports Bar & Grill on Friday, April 8 in Carrollton. Be sure and come out and welcome Mark and Butch to the band.

Sowing at Barley House

Saturday, February 19, 2011

It was our very first time at The Barley House near SMU in Dallas. Even though our fans are use to us starting a bit earlier than 10pm, the place was packed and everyone had a great time. We appreciate all the Friends of Jurassic Rock coming out and helping us rock the place. Click here to see all the pictures from the night.

In three weeks on Friday March 11, we're back at our favorite east Dallas place to play - Lonestar Cafe & Club.  It's always a party at Lonestar, so be sure to join us there.

A Time for Everything

Saturday, January 22, 2011

From Tony McCoy

One of my favorite Bible passages is Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.  As there is an appointed time for everything under the heavens so the time has come for me to retire from Jurassic Rock.  I have been a member of Jurassic Rock since the late 90’s when Rick Harper and I first formed the band.  I can’t say enough good things about the past and present members who made this such a great ride.  I got to live one of my bucket list dreams to its fullest; being in a rock-n-roll band.  To past band members Rick, Chris and Tim I want to say thanks for allowing me to be there in the beginning.  To current members, Bob, Scott, John and Greg I thank you for your continued passion in keeping Jurassic Rock moving forward.  It was an honor to perform with you guys.  To all the FOJR’s, please continue your support for Jurassic Rock as bigger and better things are on the horizon for them.  Thanks so much for support and love for Jurassic Rock through the years.

As for me, I have other music endeavors including a light acoustic rock group called DCT 1906, a praise band called The Awesome God Band and my own personal music, NewAlchemyMusic. (NewAlchemyMusic.com

And finally, I thank my wife Kathy for her support during this time.  This would not have been possible without your love and understanding.  Thanks Kat!

God Bless and Godspeed to All!!
Tony McCoy

Saturday, January 8, 2011

Jurassic Rock had the pleasure of playing the Potentate Ball this past Saturday at the Ridglea Country Club in Ft. Worth.  This formal event was for the Moslah Shrine to inaugurate their new Potentate for 2011. Congratulations to Rick Evans on his appointment to this position and his Lady Gina. We wish the Shrine a successful 2011. It was a great event - click here to see all the pictures.

We're off for a few weeks practicing more great classic rock songs for the new year. On Saturday, February 19 we'll be at the Barley House in Dallas. It's our first time there, so be sure to come out and help us start 2011  on the right foot.

Bringing in 2011 in Style

Friday, December 31, 2010

Jurassic Rock headlined at Little O's in Arlington, finishing out 2010 with a flourish and bringing 2011 in rocking. It was standing room only, and everyone had a great time bringing in the New Year right. We took a lot of pictures; you can see them here.

2010 was a great year for Jurassic Rock - from the Best Band Ft. Worth 2010 award, to playing a host of private parties, new places (Oasis and Fat Daddy's) and old favorites (Arena, John B's, and Lonestar). We always appreciate the support from our fans, who make it all possible for five guys who just like to rock.  Thank you and we'll see you in 2011.

Rockin' Down on the Ranch

Saturday, December 4, 2010

We had a great time playing for a private party for Tailored Adjustment Services Inc. at the Circle R Ranch in Flower Mound. Thanks to James Buchanan (president) and Mike Myers (vice-president) for inviting us to play. Here's a bunch of pictures from the party.

Powering Up At Lonestar

Friday, November 19, 2010

Since our last two gigs were a private party and a Thursday nighter, it was great to get back to the Lonestar Cafe & Club in East Dallas and play to a packed house. We appreciate all the support from our FOJRs (Friends of Jurassic Rock), and as you can see from the pictures, everyone had a great time rocking the night away. We've got one more gig for 2010, a private party, but we're still working a potential New Year's Eve engagement, We'll keep you informed. But as you can see, we're moving forward for another great year of classic rock in 2011, and look forward to playing at several new venues around the metroplex.

A Ghastly Evening in The Colony

Saturday, October 30, 2010

All the ghoulish and demonic friends of Jurassic Rock were in The Colony  with us Saturday evening to celebrate Halloween 2010.  First, a huge thanks to Ken and Barbie Drake for hosting a great Halloween party.  In our usual Halloween tradition, the band dressed up in our own crazy costumes and partied with the best of The Colony Saturday night.  We don't often get the chance to play small intimate parties like this so the band had a great time mingling with the all the unique characters that go with a Halloween "get-down".  You can check out the evening festivities here.  Next up, we are back in east Dallas at Lone Star Cafe on Friday, November 19th.

Jurassic Rock at Fat Daddy’s

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Jurassic Rock had the pleasure of playing at Fat Daddy’s in Waxahachie, Texas Thursday, October 21.  Fat Daddy’s was sponsoring a pre-race party for fans and drivers to celebrate the ADRL World Finals at the Texas Motorplex Raceway in Ennis, Texas October 22 and 23.  One of the drivers in attendance last night was Gaylen Smith, currently 6th in national points standings out of 43 drivers and driver of the infamous TEXAS BOUNTY HUNTER.  Gaylen was joined by several other ADRL super star drivers who were available for pictures and autographs.

The staff at Fat Daddy’s handled the race crowd and the band crowd like a champ.  Fat Daddy’s sure knows how to throw a party and last night was no exception.  Between the race fans and the band fans and the regular fans enjoying dinner and a drink fans, we made quite a few new friends.  We look forward to playing at the Waxahachie location and several other locations around the metroplex in the future.   Fat Daddy’s has great food, a great staff and a great family friendly atmosphere.  Thanks for the invite John!!!!

For a look at all the action, check out the pictures here.

End of the Summer Party at the Oasis

Saturday, October 16, 2010

We could not have planned a more exciting end of the summer of 2010.  Saturday evening marked the end of the season for live music on the patio at the Oasis and it was a great one.  The Oasis is a marina/restaurant on Joe Pool Lake in south Grand Prairie and a very chic place to hang out.  The weather was perfect and patrons were fantastic.  In addition to all our FOJR’s in attendance we had many regulars who stayed with through the end of the night. When you get a couple of hundred folks dancing and swaying on a floating patio we had the entire club shaking and making waves all around the marina.  From the moment we hit the stage at 7:30 until last call at 11:30 it was non-stop action.  We had three or four boats docked along side of the patio most of the evening with folks who decided to join the party festivities and the dance floor was never empty.  The Oasis told us they are excited to have us come back out in the spring and we are excited to go back.  To see all the action, check out the pictures from last night.

In the meantime we quite a few gigs lined up in the coming weeks including our debut at Fat Daddy’s in Waxahachie this coming Thursday.  We would like to extend our thanks to the FOJR’s who came to see us last night.  You guys are the greatest.

Showdown in the Arena

As usual, we appreciate the big crowd of FOJRs (Friends of Jurassic Rock) who came out and helped us party. the usual pictorial display is available for your viewing here. In three weeks we're playing at the Oasis at Joe Pool Lake - our first time there. It should be a great gig by the waterfront, so come out and help us rock the place.

Starring at the Lonestar

After a hiatus of a few months, we were back to our favorite Dallas place to play - Lonestar. As usual, good crowd and we had a great time playing. For pictures from the night, click here. We're back at Arena Sports Bar in Carrollton in two weeks, so be sure to come out and help us rock the place.

Jurassic Rock Dream Home Pyrotechnics

Saturday, August 29, 2010

Jurassic Rock’s new pyrotechnics show was a solid hit last night, but more on that in a moment.  The folks at Fort Worth Texas Magazine were at it again last night, hosting a private party at this year’s 2010 Dream Home Party to raise money for Cooks Children’s Medical Center.  They are a real class act with all the fund raisers for the children of the Fort Worth community.  The 2010 Dream Home was the result of renovations and remodeling of a beautiful old mansion next to the Colonial Country Club near downtown Fort Worth.  Our guess is that Fort Texas Magazine needed a beautiful old rock band to make the Dream Home party complete and that’s where your favorite party band, Jurassic Rock and the pyrotechnics comes in.   Before an estimated 400 people and a mere three songs into the night we blew the transformer on the utility pole directly behind us (at least we would like to think it was us).  It was quite a spectacle as the transformer went BOOM and blew sparks and fire in the yard behind us.  The entire party was immediately in the dark and we were without power.  Not missing a beat we grabbed our acoustic guitars and kept the party going serenading the attendees with the likes of the theme from Gilligan’s Island, Simon and Garfunkel and many more sing-a-long tunes.  Talk about intimacy, we had a crowd gathered around and singing right along with us.  When the power came back we had about an hour left to entertain the crowd.  As fate would have it and with about 10 minutes left to play, the transformer put on bigger and much more impressive light show.  Talk about going out with a bang.  It was a great night and we would like to thank Kathy Mills and Hal Brown from Fort Worth Texas Magazine for the opportunity to entertain their audience.  And we extend a special thanks to Mary and Tom Bates for graciously opening their beautiful home to so many people for a great cause.  To view pictures from the night's activities, click here.

Best Of 2010 Gala - Casa Manana, Fort Worth

Saturday, August 15, 2010

Awesome is the only way to describe the feeling of playing in front of 800 people at Fort Worth Texas Magazine’s Best Of 2010 Gala at Casa Manana in Fort Worth, Texas.  The Best Of Gala is an annual celebration sponsored by Fort Worth Texas Magazine for the benefit of the Panther Club and The Boys and Girls Club of Fort Worth.  The honorees, including your own Jurassic Rock, were voted the best by the read

ers and subscribers of Fort Worth Texas Magazine (and our dedicated FOJR’s) in an online survey back in March.  We cannot thank all the loyal fans of Jurassic Rock enough for the support they have shown us over the past 10 years.  Also, we extend our sincere thanks to Hal Brown, owner of Fort Worth Texas Magazine and Kathy Mills, Promotions Director for all their hard work in pulling off a great party at Casa Manana.   We met and made friends with so many great people last night.    I dare say we have 800 new FOJR’s (Friends of Jurassic Rock).    Please check out the pictures from last night  here, and look us up on FaceBook at Jurassic Rock – DFW for more pictures and comments from our new friends and fans!!!  Thanks again everyone!

Jurassic Rock - Best Local Band
(as voted by readers and subscribers of Fort Worth, Texas Magazine)

Sunday, May 2, 2010

A FOJR (Friend of Jurassic Rock) notified us last month that a certain Fort Worth magazine was conducting a 2010 Best of the Best contest for Tarrant county and that she had voted for us (thanks Cindi!) as the Best Local Band. This publication is known as the Fort Worth, Texas Magazine.  They do an online survey each year to find the best of the best in Tarrant County (see 2009 Best Of results here) from the finest restaurants such as Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House, to the best Bridal shop (Bliss Bridal) to the best place to take your kids (The Fort Worth Zoo), etc., etc.  Apparently all our fans responded en masse because the Fort Worth, Texas Magazine Promotions Director called us this week to say that Jurassic Rock had won the Best Local Band vote by a landslide.  What an honor it is to have so many devoted followers vote for Jurassic Rock as the Best Local Band.  Without a doubt this is the pinnacle of our band’s success since our inception.

We want to thank Fort Worth, Texas Magazine for honoring Jurassic Rock with this prestigious award.  However, without our FOJR’s, this would have never been possible, so on behalf of each of us, Bob, Scott, Greg, John and Tony, we sincerely thank all of you.

Now for the celebration:  Fort Worth, Texas Magazine uses this opportunity as a fund raiser for The Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Greater Fort Worth by bringing together all the Best Of The Best for a very special social event. To find out more, go to the Fort Worth, Texas Magazine website.  This year’s celebration will be held on August 14 at Casa Manana Theater.  All the best will be there from 7:00-11:00 PM.  Early bird tickets are $65 while tickets at the door are $75.  As we get closer to the date we will give you an update on the evening’s agenda including the time we will be playing.  We look forward to seeing every there to celebrate The Best Local Band award!!!!!!  Thanks again.

Steamy Night at Lone Star Café

Saturday, June 26, 2010

It was not your typical summer evening last Friday.  With all the rain and humidity you could have sworn we playing in a sauna instead of one of our favorite east side (of Dallas) pubs!  But as usual our loyal FOJR’s were out in mass despite all the rain to support their favorite DFW rock band, Jurassic Rock!!!  We were pleasantly surprised to see several JR fans that we had not seen in a few months.  We were also surprised to meet several new FOJR’s Friday evening.  It seems several folks had heard about the legend of Jurassic Rock and had to come out to see for themselves what we were all about.  The rain and storms notwithstanding, it’s safe to say that a great time was had by old and new FOJR’s. To check out the pictures from the night, click here.  Speaking of new FOJR’s,  one of our new FOJR’s, Colette, was the grand prize winner of our famous Jurassic Rock T-shirt.   We send out a special thanks to Dee Dee of the Sonic League Band for jumping up on stage a belting an awesome version of Mustang Sally.  More than anything we want to say thanks to all our loyal fans that come to party with their favorites dinosaurs.   See ya’ soon!!!

Smokin' Hot at Arena's

Saturday, June 26, 2010

As it turns out, it was as hot in Arena’s Sports Bar Saturday night as was anywhere in north Texas in the middle of the summer.  It had been a couple months since we last played Arena’s and they had changed owner ship since our last date there.   We would like to thank all of our FOJR’s (Friends of Jurassic Rock) for welcoming us back so enthusiastically.  We also extend our thanks to the new ownership at Arena’s.  Their staff and their manager were all about taking care of us and our FOJR’s.  They asked us to come back and play every month until the end of the year and we certainly look forward to going back as soon as we can.  Arena’s is a fairly large venue in Carrollton and almost every seat in the house was reserved.  So far this year has been one of our best.  Between the growing number of fans, the private parties, the great venues and being voted the Best Home Grown Band in Tarrant county, we have so much to be thankful for, especially all the folks who come out to see us time and again.  Well enough said, check out the pictures from last night’s party at Arena’s  Sport’s Bar and Grill in Carrollton.  BTW, their bacon cheese burger is one of the best in Dallas county.  See ya at our next party ….

Partying Down

Friday, May 28, 2010

Allegro Addison Apartments at 15750 Spectrum Dr. in Addison sure knows how to put on a party.  We would like to extend are thanks to Stephanie Thomas the Allegro Addison apartment manager for inviting us out and Chesney her assistant for all her help. What made this evening so special for us was the diverse group of people who lived at the Allegro.   No matter the age or background they all enjoyed JR as much as we enjoyed them.  We played on the top floor of the building outside by the pool.  Blackfinn in Addison did a wonderful job catering the food and Allegro provided the drinks.  We are proud to note that the folks at Allegro floated the first keg before the end of the second set.  Impressive!  We hope to get back to the Allegro for their next party.  Click here for a look at some pictures from the evening. And be sure to look for us soon at some new venues around town.

Lounging at the Lonestar

Friday, April 23, 2010

We were back to the east side of Dallas at our favorite hangout there - Lonestar Cafe & Club. We had a great time as you can see from the always interesting pictures (click here). Thanks to all those who came out and rocked with us. We have two private parties coming up in May. However, it's a little while until our next open gig at Arena Sports Bar & Grill on Saturday, June 26. We'll be working on picking up another gig before then, so hang tight.

Back in the Arena

Saturday, April 17, 2010

Despite an evening full of rain, we still managed to have a full house at Arena Sports Bar in Carrollton. Thanks to all the FOJR’s (Friends of Jurassic Rock) for coming out and partying with us. Click here to see all the action from the night.  Our next gig is next Friday, April 23, back to the east side of Dallas at Lonestar Cafe & Club. See you there.

Mini Class Reunion at John B's

Friday, March 26, 2010

We finally made it back to John B’s for the first time since last October.  We’re not sure who was happier.  We always have a great turn out when we play there, but last night was exceptional.  Bob had several of his buddies from South Grand Prairie High School make it out along with several of his work mates.  From South Grand Prairie High School both Jurassic Rock and John B’s welcomed Keith,  Bobby, Becky, Randy, Belinda.  Also friends from work included Clydean, Deb, Brian (who won the coveted JR t-shirt), Dave & Janette,  and Bill & Pam.

Tony also had a mini reunion of sorts with several of his friends from Bowie High School in Arlington.  Tony had not seen many of these friends since high school (32 years).  They included Dennis and his wife Susan, Linda and Scott, Rocky and Valerie, Rick and Dawn, Mike and his wife Tracie, Kenneth, and finally Coach Copeland (our high school football and track coach). Tony picked up his first axe after listening to Dennis play his guitar in the back of the bus on the way home from school one day.  Dennis made his way on stage for a smokin’ hot  rendition of Taking Care of Business.  Our thanks to John B's for this special engagement!

We would like to extend our thanks for everyone who came out to listen to us last night including all our FOJR’s (Friends of Jurassic Rock) who come to see us play everywhere we go.

Of course you can click here to view all the sordid evidence.

Thanks again FOJR’s, old and new!!!!

Our next gig is back at a new place we're playing up in Carrollton -  Arena Sports Bar & Grill on Saturday, April 17. A very nice place to party with good food, lots of pool tables and big screens - so join us for a beer or two.
