Jurassic Rock - Best Local Band
(as voted by readers and subscribers of Fort Worth, Texas Magazine)

Sunday, May 2, 2010

A FOJR (Friend of Jurassic Rock) notified us last month that a certain Fort Worth magazine was conducting a 2010 Best of the Best contest for Tarrant county and that she had voted for us (thanks Cindi!) as the Best Local Band. This publication is known as the Fort Worth, Texas Magazine.  They do an online survey each year to find the best of the best in Tarrant County (see 2009 Best Of results here) from the finest restaurants such as Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House, to the best Bridal shop (Bliss Bridal) to the best place to take your kids (The Fort Worth Zoo), etc., etc.  Apparently all our fans responded en masse because the Fort Worth, Texas Magazine Promotions Director called us this week to say that Jurassic Rock had won the Best Local Band vote by a landslide.  What an honor it is to have so many devoted followers vote for Jurassic Rock as the Best Local Band.  Without a doubt this is the pinnacle of our band’s success since our inception.

We want to thank Fort Worth, Texas Magazine for honoring Jurassic Rock with this prestigious award.  However, without our FOJR’s, this would have never been possible, so on behalf of each of us, Bob, Scott, Greg, John and Tony, we sincerely thank all of you.

Now for the celebration:  Fort Worth, Texas Magazine uses this opportunity as a fund raiser for The Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Greater Fort Worth by bringing together all the Best Of The Best for a very special social event. To find out more, go to the Fort Worth, Texas Magazine website.  This year’s celebration will be held on August 14 at Casa Manana Theater.  All the best will be there from 7:00-11:00 PM.  Early bird tickets are $65 while tickets at the door are $75.  As we get closer to the date we will give you an update on the evening’s agenda including the time we will be playing.  We look forward to seeing every there to celebrate The Best Local Band award!!!!!!  Thanks again.

Steamy Night at Lone Star Café

Saturday, June 26, 2010

It was not your typical summer evening last Friday.  With all the rain and humidity you could have sworn we playing in a sauna instead of one of our favorite east side (of Dallas) pubs!  But as usual our loyal FOJR’s were out in mass despite all the rain to support their favorite DFW rock band, Jurassic Rock!!!  We were pleasantly surprised to see several JR fans that we had not seen in a few months.  We were also surprised to meet several new FOJR’s Friday evening.  It seems several folks had heard about the legend of Jurassic Rock and had to come out to see for themselves what we were all about.  The rain and storms notwithstanding, it’s safe to say that a great time was had by old and new FOJR’s. To check out the pictures from the night, click here.  Speaking of new FOJR’s,  one of our new FOJR’s, Colette, was the grand prize winner of our famous Jurassic Rock T-shirt.   We send out a special thanks to Dee Dee of the Sonic League Band for jumping up on stage a belting an awesome version of Mustang Sally.  More than anything we want to say thanks to all our loyal fans that come to party with their favorites dinosaurs.   See ya’ soon!!!

Smokin' Hot at Arena's

Saturday, June 26, 2010

As it turns out, it was as hot in Arena’s Sports Bar Saturday night as was anywhere in north Texas in the middle of the summer.  It had been a couple months since we last played Arena’s and they had changed owner ship since our last date there.   We would like to thank all of our FOJR’s (Friends of Jurassic Rock) for welcoming us back so enthusiastically.  We also extend our thanks to the new ownership at Arena’s.  Their staff and their manager were all about taking care of us and our FOJR’s.  They asked us to come back and play every month until the end of the year and we certainly look forward to going back as soon as we can.  Arena’s is a fairly large venue in Carrollton and almost every seat in the house was reserved.  So far this year has been one of our best.  Between the growing number of fans, the private parties, the great venues and being voted the Best Home Grown Band in Tarrant county, we have so much to be thankful for, especially all the folks who come out to see us time and again.  Well enough said, check out the pictures from last night’s party at Arena’s  Sport’s Bar and Grill in Carrollton.  BTW, their bacon cheese burger is one of the best in Dallas county.  See ya at our next party ….

Partying Down

Friday, May 28, 2010

Allegro Addison Apartments at 15750 Spectrum Dr. in Addison sure knows how to put on a party.  We would like to extend are thanks to Stephanie Thomas the Allegro Addison apartment manager for inviting us out and Chesney her assistant for all her help. What made this evening so special for us was the diverse group of people who lived at the Allegro.   No matter the age or background they all enjoyed JR as much as we enjoyed them.  We played on the top floor of the building outside by the pool.  Blackfinn in Addison did a wonderful job catering the food and Allegro provided the drinks.  We are proud to note that the folks at Allegro floated the first keg before the end of the second set.  Impressive!  We hope to get back to the Allegro for their next party.  Click here for a look at some pictures from the evening. And be sure to look for us soon at some new venues around town.

Lounging at the Lonestar

Friday, April 23, 2010

We were back to the east side of Dallas at our favorite hangout there - Lonestar Cafe & Club. We had a great time as you can see from the always interesting pictures (click here). Thanks to all those who came out and rocked with us. We have two private parties coming up in May. However, it's a little while until our next open gig at Arena Sports Bar & Grill on Saturday, June 26. We'll be working on picking up another gig before then, so hang tight.

Back in the Arena

Saturday, April 17, 2010

Despite an evening full of rain, we still managed to have a full house at Arena Sports Bar in Carrollton. Thanks to all the FOJR’s (Friends of Jurassic Rock) for coming out and partying with us. Click here to see all the action from the night.  Our next gig is next Friday, April 23, back to the east side of Dallas at Lonestar Cafe & Club. See you there.

Mini Class Reunion at John B's

Friday, March 26, 2010

We finally made it back to John B’s for the first time since last October.  We’re not sure who was happier.  We always have a great turn out when we play there, but last night was exceptional.  Bob had several of his buddies from South Grand Prairie High School make it out along with several of his work mates.  From South Grand Prairie High School both Jurassic Rock and John B’s welcomed Keith,  Bobby, Becky, Randy, Belinda.  Also friends from work included Clydean, Deb, Brian (who won the coveted JR t-shirt), Dave & Janette,  and Bill & Pam.

Tony also had a mini reunion of sorts with several of his friends from Bowie High School in Arlington.  Tony had not seen many of these friends since high school (32 years).  They included Dennis and his wife Susan, Linda and Scott, Rocky and Valerie, Rick and Dawn, Mike and his wife Tracie, Kenneth, and finally Coach Copeland (our high school football and track coach). Tony picked up his first axe after listening to Dennis play his guitar in the back of the bus on the way home from school one day.  Dennis made his way on stage for a smokin’ hot  rendition of Taking Care of Business.  Our thanks to John B's for this special engagement!

We would like to extend our thanks for everyone who came out to listen to us last night including all our FOJR’s (Friends of Jurassic Rock) who come to see us play everywhere we go.

Of course you can click here to view all the sordid evidence.

Thanks again FOJR’s, old and new!!!!

Our next gig is back at a new place we're playing up in Carrollton -  Arena Sports Bar & Grill on Saturday, April 17. A very nice place to party with good food, lots of pool tables and big screens - so join us for a beer or two.

Jurassic Rock on YouTube

Sunday, December 14, 2008

We've added a bunch of great new videos online from our gigs at Lonestar and Dino's. Check it out at YouTube.com.

On the Edge of a New Age

A little known fact about Jurassic Rock's Tony McCoy is that his favorite music genre is New Age. He recently created his own web site,  www.newalchemymusic.com, to provide a venue for songs he has written and performed. Inspired by New Age and Celtic musicians such as Yanni, Chris Spheeris, Diane Arkenstone, Secret Garden, Enya and Enaid, he has created music that is relaxing and reflective.
